"When Erica arrived, she was so calm and so loving, she gave me a big hug and was all smiles. The energy in the hospital room was instantly transformed with her arrival from "total chaos" to "yeah, my beautiful son is almost here." As Erica says: birth is an emergence, not an emergency. I wasn't sure how to do what, when. Erica was nestled up cozily right by my ear, holding my hand and was calmly walking me through all that I needed to do, almost like a translator. She helped me breath, through every inhale and exhale along side of me and verbally guided me through relaxing all parts of my body that were not engaged in the contractions. Erica remained completely calm and reassuring that all would be fine and it was. My little boy was born healthy and beautiful after 19 hours of labor. I am so grateful that my husband and I had Erica by our side; she helped bring moments of peace and celebration into my labor. She is knowledgeable and respectful of the process. She is courteous to doctors and nurses and also advocates for the mothers needs and wants. She always remembers the baby and advocates for him/her as well. She is professional and totally invested in her work. She stays in close contact before and after the birth, is there ready and willing for the panicked phone call from the new moms..."help". She has my absolute trust and if my husband and I have a second child, she will be our first call." Camie, NYC

"Erica was my doula – both birthing and postpartum – for the birth of my second baby. After a grueling first birth experience, I prepared for my second labor with much anxiety and the search for the right support became a big priority. After speaking with numerous doulas, I knew Erica was the one. In preparation for labor and delivery, Erica and I had multiple touch points. She was incredibly helpful in providing practical suggestions as I progressed in my pregnancy and as I prepared for birth. Listening and observing comes natural to Erica – in visiting me at home, she was eager to integrate my husband and my older child to our conversations and making sure that they knew how best to support wife/mommy. Erica has a deep rolodex of resources including prenatal massage and baby nurses. She was always available to speak, email or text and I never felt she was un-available to me or in a rush to hang up the phone or leave our meeting. She truly has a presence of a friend and that’s exactly what I needed. Erica was also more than just support. She provided context to the topics I discussed with my doctors at my prenatal appointments and helped me draft a birth plan that was more than just a wish list. During labor, Erica was the ultimate advocate and support for me and my husband. She provided comfort measures for me. She explained what was going on in layman’s terms, which I very much appreciated even though I had gone through labor before. She politely but firmly reminded my doctors and hospital staff of my wishes without offending them. For post-partum, Erica’s visits really centered around making sure mommy was recovering. She did so in tangible ways by bringing delicious and wholesome food, providing lactation help and giving me massages. Also, she quietly impressed upon people at home (visitors, family, help) to be sensitive to the needs of the mother too, during a time when it’s so easy to focus solely on the cute little newborn. Most importantly, during our conversations, I was not only able to process my second birth but also bring closure to the challenges of my first birth. Erica really is a born-nurturer. And I’m so glad that she was there for my birthing experience." Kyu, Manhattan

"It may sound strange, but when we first met Erica I was already in labor. It was about an hour after my first contraction when my partner and I arrived at Bumi Sehat (birthing center in Bali) for my baby's delivery and were offered the presence of a doula. I did not know Erica then as I had only been seeing a midwife at the clinic throughout the pregnancy and actually had no idea how beautiful and important the work of the doula is. I was so surprised of her kindness. Erica spent the whole 13hrs during the night right next to me, giving me peace & courage, sharing aromatherapy & massage, and most importantly, LOVE. She also gave my partner assurance so he could have a little rest during my labor and sneak in a little sleep! We were so lucky to have had Erica as our doula. And if we ever have another baby it would be out of the question to not to have her there again." Vicka, Brazil
"Because it will not be “just another day” for you when your child is born, do what you can to make your child’s birth a good memory. Choose your doctor or midwife and your place for birth carefully. Those choices will determine to a great extent how you will be treated and how you will remember the birth, and also, possibly, how you will feel about yourself." Penny Simkin
