Birth Poetry
Your hand against
my foot
lets me push
past my fear
through that
small hole
inside of myself
my strength
growing like crystals
on glass
exponentially, beautifully
Your warmth runs
up my leg
cocooning my belly
calling to that small
moth,
that butterfly
inside of me
to emerge
slowly uncurling her
moist wings,hungry mouth
into your cradle-hand
You kneel
waiting patiently
for the rest
to slide with an
explosion of joy and wetness
into your arms,
my arms
and together
we laugh

Give Birth Slowly
A new moon teaches gradualness
And deliberation and how one gives birth
To oneself slowly. Patience with small details
Makes perfect a large work, like the universe.
What nine months of attention does for an embryo
Forty early mornings will do
For your gradually growing
wholeness.

An Ode to Faith
When you have come to the edge
Of all the light you know,
And are about to step off
Into the darkness of the unknown,
Faith is knowing that
One of two things will happen,
There will be something solid to stand on,
Or you will be taught how to fly.
